THE COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Hi! I'm your school counselor, Allie Bitner. I've been in school counseling since 2016, and I absolutely love my job! I'm excited to join an amazing team of educators at Clackamas River Elementary, and I am thrilled to work with your student this year! This school year will be filled with fun, lots of learning, and new adventures. Go Chinooks!

Comprehensive School Counseling Program Components: 

According to the American School Counselor Association, a minimum of 80% of time is recommended for direct and indirect student services and 20% or less in program planning and school support. Direct student services include: Short-term individual and group counseling, tier 2 SEL small-group instruction and classroom support, REID day grade-level SEL rotation, Lunch Bunch, individual instruction/psychoeducation, crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, Check-in/Check-out and Check & Connect, behavior support, student appraisal and advisement. Indirect student services include: 504 case management, Intervention Team facilitator, mental health referrals and resources, parent/guardian consultation, staff/stakeholder consultation, School Culture Committee collaborator, Leadership Team collaborator, community outreach, and crisis response.


 

Credentials:

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor via the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, a National Certified Counselor and a National Certified School Counselor via the National Board for Certified Counselors, and I hold a Professional School Counselor License via the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. 


 

Formal Education and Training: 

I earned a Master of Science degree in School Counseling, and a Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Theory in Mental Health Services from Capella University. My formal training includes masters-level coursework in the following areas: research in human development; assessments, tests, and measures; ethical and legal issues in professional counseling; contemporary issues in school counseling; advanced counseling approaches; theories of counseling and guidance for children and adolescents; group counseling and psychotherapy; life planning and career development; counseling and advocacy with diverse populations; crisis intervention, trauma, response and emergency management; theories of psychotherapy; clinical mental health counseling; and principles of psychopathology and diagnosis.
